===== QUOTE Reed McLay ==== Members are urged to excercise extreme caution when considering downloading something from a torrent site. Torrents are notorious corrupt and hosts for malware and virus like trogan programs. I would strongly reccomend members stay with RIM supported downloads and installers. It is not malware and there are no viruses. If people are worried all they have to do is scan the complete file before installing with their anti-virus program. I download torrents every day and over 99% are virus free. You are overly paranoid. Posted from my BlackBerry using BerryBlab. It's the official release downloaded abd I created a torrent.

I recently cleaned a co-workers PC with over 36,000 viruses.
All of them came from downloading BitTorrent files. Every media file they had downloaded, music and video, was infected. So the moderator's warning is dead on. If you don't know where you are downloading the file from, you are at risk. Well one person's paranoia is another person's reality.

If you don't know where you are downloading the file from, you are at risk. Period! All someone needs to do is run an anti-virus program like Avast Home Free. It detects viruses etc while a torrent is downloading and aborts the download if a torrent is detected.
Also whenever you download any file it checks it while it is downloading and will abort if a virus, etc. It even warns you of dangerous web pages and blocks access to them unless you overtly tell it you accept the risk and wish to proceed. Very easy to protect your PC if you take easy and free precautions. Torrents don't infect computers. Stupid people do. When you download a leak you are not getting it from an official source so whatever risk a torrent has, downloading from megauploads, rapidshare, etc. Is just as dangerous and fraught with the same perils as you have no idea where the leak came from and who uploaded it in the first place.
